WIP Wednesday February 13, 2019

It's WIP Wednesday and I have something to post. I finished 4 panels on Margaret Tudor, which I haven't taken pics of because I didn't want to. After the 4th panel, I started another layette set because KnitWits. I have 3 pieces of the orange and teal fleece so I'll be working with those colors for awhile. I also started a sewing project. I intended to sew this before Christmas because it was going to be a present, but then life got in the way so I'm doing it now. I'm about a fourth done with it, and I'm very proud of how it's looking so far. I got the outside part done. It has 4 pockets in it, plus a strap, and a velcro tab for closing. My best sewing job in a long time. I'm making a circular needle case. Only 10 pockets left to make. I found a very old McCall's pattern for it on Ebay last summer. The last few days it has been snowing, and snowing, and snowing. It's a good 3 feet deep in the back yard. The snow falling off the roof is up abo...

WIP Wednesday

I'm working on the cardigan for Layette set 35. I'm loving the bright colors in this variegated yarn. I'm still working on the second of the socks I'm making for Frank. I'm about 20 rows from finishing the stranded pattern. I am having a somewhat miserable week. Last Sunday I took myself to my favorite Urgent Care clinic and was diagnosed with Shingles. Shingles is no fun. I've got severe pain that starts in the middle of my spine and radiates around my left side to my abdomen accompanied by a very painful rash that has spread around me. My skin feels like it's on fire. I broke out in the rash Thursday morning. By Saturday evening I was pretty sure I had Shingles. Thus, hauling my ass to the doctor early the next morning. I've been given a prescription for an antivirus medication which is supposed to cut the length I have this torture. Other than that, it's just waiting until it works it's way through to healing. I'm contagious as long as the...

Yesterdays WIP Wednesday

I wanted to post this yesterday but I didn't have the time. So I'll do it today. I have completed the knitting of the first sock and have started the second one. I am not completely happy with the first sock. As you can see in the photo, I have a problem where the needles join in the corrugated rib cuff. I can't figure out how to make that column of stitches even in size with the rest of the columns. I'm very frustrated because the same thing is happening with the second sock. The body of the sock is fine at the join. It will block nice and flat. The floats are perfect on the inside. So, anyone got any advice on that cuff problem? I've also been doing a bit of beading. I stumbled across something new in the beading world. It's called Peyote With A Twist Not Crochet, or PWAT for short. It's a way of making peyote tubes that look like bead crochet. I am learning how to do it. There are lots of cool patterns being created for it too. Tons on Etsy. This techniqu...

WIP Wednesday Again

I've got 2 knit projects in the works for this post. First, I've started the second of a pair of gold child's mittens. They'll be size 4-6. I've also got the knitting done for the matching hat to the entrelac cardigan. Just needs blocking and sewing together the pieces. Still haven't found a pattern I like for entrelac booties. This week we are having glorious spring weather. Sunshine, blue sky, and fluffy clouds. It's very warm. I've been opening windows and doors and blowing out the winter staleness. The hot tub is leaking yet again. I've told sweet hubby I give up. I'm tired of dealing with it. The damn thing is over 50 years old and it's reached the end of it's life. He's not willing, yet, to let go, so I leave it to him as to what to do next. If we could just figure out where the leaks are, we could probably fix it, but alas. I had some problems with my new vacuum cleaner over the weekend. It would not suck. I discovered that I...

I would have posted this earlier this morning, but I was having computer problems. My virus protection software disappeared. I spent all morning figuring out what happened to it. Apparently, a virus got on my computer that was blocking the virus protection program. Thankfully the company that makes my virus program had a little program I could download and run that fixed the problem, but it took me a long time to figure out that was my solution. Sheesh! Time flies when you're busy. Here's an update of the current WIPS. In knitting, I've finished knitting all the cardigan pieces. It's time to sew them all together. (The cat ears are Merino laying in the window bed soaking up sunshine.) I tried sewing the first sleeve on yesterday, but I was not feeling well which made everything I tried to do end in disaster, so I put it away for the day. Cross stitching went much better. On the Mini Star Trek I've finished 4 more characters since I last posted about it. All of Mudd...

Another WIP post. I needed to start a knitting project that would be easily portable. I decided to make a scarf for a male acquaintance. I bought some Universal Yarns Bamboo Pop in black and granite. I picked one of the scarf patterns from my new knitting book,  Seed Stitch Beyond Knit 1, Purl 1 . I have been enjoying it so much. It's a 4 row stitch pattern easily memorized. It's knitting up fairly quickly despite the size 5 needles and thinner yarn. I worked on the entrelac cardigan sleeve but didn't make much headway because I frogged it and started over. I've just gotten back to where I was before frogging. It's looking much better. I worked on my Mini Star Trek a bit too. I have a good part of the Mudd's woman wearing the green dress stitched. The pattern has a very different green. Almost a teal color, and I was going to use it, but then I thought I'd google a pic and found out her dress is more this limey color than what the pattern has. The third lad...

Hello! It's WIP Wednesday again. It's also me and sweet hubby's 36th wedding anniversary.  I can't believe it's been 36 years. He's the best husband a woman could ask for and I'm super thankful he married me. So, I was working on the Mini Star Trek doing the backstitch outline on the pink dress Mudd's lady and I thought to myself that things would look much better with more outlining than I've been doing. I've just been outlining the outside edges. That kind of looked weird on miss pink dress lady. So I outlined everything and she looked so much better. Then I spent the next couple hours doing the same thing to the whole project. Didn't take very long and it all looks so much better. 10 characters are done. 9 to go. I've started number 11, the green dress lady, with her arm. ('Scuse the shadows. The sun is shining.) Someone told me they didn't like this cuz it's "too cartoony". I said "Duh. That's what I lov...

Happy Valentines day!  I'm doing a WIP Wednesday post today. First we have the entrelac baby cardigan. I've finished the back and working on the left front. It's going very nicely. I am at the place where I start decreasing for the neckline. It's the weirdest way of decreasing. Starting on the right side, you're supposed to knit across to the last 3 sts, then bind them off, cut the yarn, then retie it on and knit the next row. Why didn't they stop on a wrong side row and start with the bind off? It's kind of a stupid way of doing it, adding 2 unecessary ends to weave in. I'm not doing it like that cuz it's too ridiculous. I'm gonna do it my way. Sometimes I wonder just what the designer was on when they wrote their pattern. Last night I finished the 9th character in MiniStarTrek. This is Mudd from the episode "Mudd's Women". The next character will be one of those women. UPS delivered a new knitting book to me this morning. It'...

It's WIP Wednesday time. I am showing 2 projects today. Yesterday, at the Rathdrum Knitalong meeting, I started a new layette set with the casting on of the cardigan. I still have some of the white, violet, orange, and teal paisley print fleece that needs to be used. I've decided to go with the white, orange, and violet in the fabric. I've also been working on the white and mint mitten. As you can see in these photos, there is not enough contrast to see the color pattern clearly, so I am going to frog these and find some other yarn for this project. I'm taking this yarn back to KnitWits. Someone else can find a better use for it. Another issue I've had with this mitten is the needles are tarnishing. These are Addi Turbo Lace needles, which I love. I'm getting black all over my hands, and some on the yarn too. I googled it this morning and found out that some of the Turbo Lace needles do this because they are made of brass and the clear coating that is ordinaril...
