Dogwood and Hummingbirds

Washed, blocked, and framed. It's officially done! It's even hung on the wall. Only took 12 years to do.



The name of the pattern is Dogwood and Hummingbirds by Canadian northwest artist Sue Coleman. I love it.

To those who want to say "But Dogwood only has 4 petals (bracts)." This is Pacific Dogwood which can have 4, 5, or 6 bracts, all on the same tree. This is the Dogwood I grew up with. It grows wild on the Pacific coast and is, in my opinion, the most beautiful of all the Dogwoods.

At the beginning of the year I like to set myself a knitting goal. Sometimes I accomplish it, sometimes I don't. This year the goal is Margaret Tudor. About 10 years or so ago I was working on an Alice Starmore pattern called Margaret Tudor from her book Tudor Roses , first edition. I stopped working on it because I discovered I didn't have enough yarn. I have to enlarge the pattern because it doesn't go up to my size and I miscalculated how much yarn I would need. I put the sweater on hold while I looked for more of the yarn, which had been discontinued. Unfortunately, I have been unable to find any. So I ended up frogging the project. First Finish of 2019

Someone gave me some sock yarn a couple weeks ago so I decided to use some of it to make a pair of socks for the son-in-law Frank. His birthday is coming up in a few days. The yarn is actually more of a gray blue, but the camera would not cooperate. I'm just glad it was light enough outside to take pictures. It feels like this has been the darkest winter ever. It actually hasn't, but it feels like it.
